DAY 1 • • •
Arrival in Tokyo. Transfer to a hotel in Asakusa, Tokyo, and rest for the night. Stay in Tokyo for
4 nights.
DAY 2 • • •
Explore Asakusa and Tokyo’s largest temple, Senso-ji, and learn about the difference between
Buddhism and Shintoism. Visit Ueno Park to see some sakura, Japan’s famed cherry blossoms.
Go up Tokyo SkyTree for a commanding view of the metropolis.
DAY 3 • • •
Meet Deaf students at Meisei Gakuen, Japan’s only bi-bi school for the Deaf, in Shinagawa. Eat
lunch near ritzy Ginza. See how the young people dress up at the trendy Shibuya and Harajuku.
Visit Fusao, a Deaf-owned restaurant.
DAY 4 • • •
Go to Edo-Tokyo Museum to learn about the city’s history in-depth. Eat what sumo wrestlers
eat: a stew called chankonabe. Free time in the afternoon to explore the city and shop.
DAY 5 • • •
Bullet train to Kyoto. Meet a deaf local and go to Highashiyama, the old part of the old capital
of Japan. Make your own chopsticks. Stay in Kyoto for 4 nights.
DAY 6 • • •
With a local deaf guide, go to Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion. Take a ride to Arashiyama and
dress up in a kimono and walk through the bamboo forest. Bathe in an onsen to cap the day.
DAY 7 • • •
Day trip to Nara to see the Great Buddha and the world’s largest wooden structure, Todaiji.
Bow to the free-roaming deer in the area, considered sacred to Shinto.
DAY 8 • • •
Bullet train to Himeji. Witness the largest of Japan’s 13 original castles remaining. Learn about
medieval Japan and the warring states of Japan. Return to Kyoto and visit a location of your
choice, such as the International Manga Museum.
DAY 9 • • •
Bullet train to Hiroshima. Learn about the A-Bomb and the devastation the city endured in
1945. Eat okonomiyaki, Hiroshima’s soul food. Stay in Hiroshima for 2 nights.
DAY 10 • • •
Take a ferry to a picturesque holy island, Miyajima, which has an important part in Japanese
history and culture. Take your time to explore this gorgeous small island. Have a farewell dinner
in Hiroshima.
DAY 11 • • •
Bullet train to Tokyo and go to the airport for departure back to the USA.
1. 10 nights in 2-star or 3-star accommodations.
2. 16 meals: Breakfast (10), Lunch (4), Dinner (2)
3. Services of a deaf Tour Leader on call 24 hours a day.
4. Services of local deaf and / or hearing guides.
5. All transportation expenses.
