A group of 13 Deaf travelers recently experienced the magic of Morocco, guided by two Deaf Moroccan local tour guides. From exploring vibrant cities to venturing into the vast desert, this tour was a perfect blend of culture, history, and adventure. The tour included visits to Marrakech, Ourika Valley (in the mountain), Essaouria (fishing village), Ouarzazte, Tinghir, Merzouga, Errachida, Fez, Tetouan, Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca.

Highlights of the tour:

• Wandered through the Bahia Palace, soaking in its beautiful gardens and architecture.
  • Visited the Majorelle Garden, once home to fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.
  • Explored the ruins of El Badii Palace and enjoyed the scenic views at Jardin de la Menara,
  • Drove up to the picturesque Ourika Valley in the Atlas Mountains
  • Enjoyed a flavorful Moroccan dish slow-cooked in a clay pot, Tanjia.
  • Visited a Berber family home.
  • Visited Ait Benhaddou, an ancient fortified village that was used in films like Gladiator.
  • Visited the Cinema Museum, where famous movies like The Mummy and Gladiator were filmed, and learned about Morocco’s role as a film location.
  • Spent a relaxing day in Essaouira, a charming coastal town.
  • Hiked through Todra Gorge, often referred to as Morocco’s version of the Grand Canyon.
• Rode camels through the Merzouga Desert and stayed in a luxury desert tent.
  • Visited the historic Al-Qarawiyyin University, founded in 859 and considered the world’s oldest operating university.
  • Toured inside the Chouara Tannery, the largest and oldest leather tannery.
• Visited the Chefchaouen, known as the “Blue City” for its vibrant blue-painted buildings.
• Saw the Cave of Hercules, where it’s said that Hercules rested during his labors.
  • Stood at Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Visited the grand Mausoleums of Mohammed V and Hassan II, and admired the iconic Hassan Tower.
  • Toured the stunning Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the largest mosque in Africa.
  • Enjoyed a farewell dinner at Rick’s Café, the famous setting from the classic film Casablanca.
